6th Edition of Asansol-Durgapur - Industrial Region Discussion Forum, 25th February 2023, Asansol Engineering College, Asansol


The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the 6th Edition of Asansol−Durgapur−Industrial Region Discussion Forum in partnership with West Bengal Pollution Control Board, which was held on 25th February 2023 in Asansol Engineering College.

The Chamber organizes similar discussion forums on Sustainability in the Industrial Regions of North Bengal and Haldia annually focusing on Ecological Balance and Industrial Growth.

Shri Moloy Ghatak, Hon’ble Minister−in−Charge, Department of Law, Government of West Bengal was present in the Opening Session.

Shri Moloy Ghatak said “There is zero tolerance of manhour loss in West Bengal. Asansol Durgapur has large industries. Emphasis is also on increasing MSMEs”.

Senior industry representatives addressed the programme. Mr. Gautam Ray, Chairperson, Energy, Environment and Water Committee and President Designate, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Executive Director (HR & Admin.) CESC Limited & President (HR) − Power Group, RPSG, Mr. Subir Kumar Das, Vice President− Technical, India Power Corporation Ltd. and Mr. Kaushik Biswas, Vice President, Crescent Power Limited were present.

Other Stakeholders who joined were Mr. Partha P Chattaraj, GM−HR, India Power Corporation Limited, Mr. Mrityunjay Kumar, General Manager (Environment & Forest) and Mr. Purusottam Banerjee, Deputy Manager (Env), Eastern Coalfields Limited, Dr. Debashis Sarkar, Asso. Prof. & HOD, ME, Asansol Engineering College, Mr. Kinsuk Mukherjee, Divisional Head − Manufacturing Excellence and Sustainability, PCBL and Mr. Koushik Mukherjee, Unit HR & Administration Head, Durgapur, PCBL, Mr. Prasenjit Sen, Deputy Manager, ICML and Mr. Santanu Acharya, Deputy Manager, ICML.

The discussions included topics −

  • 3D Printing; The Future Sustainable Manufacturing Process
  • Ecological Sustainability of Coal Mines−a case study

Mr. Sudip Bhattacharya, Environmental Engineer & In−charge, Asansol Regional Office, West Bengal Pollution Control Board and Dr. P P Bhattacharya, Principal, Asansol Engineering College were also present.

Sustainable consumption is needed to be implemented along with sustainable production. Low carbon products are gaining momentum all over the world. Intense energy conservation is needed. Cultural transformation will help to address climate change. All stakeholders− academic institutions, industry, government, chambers of commerce and other agencies need to work together

There was enthusiastic participation from industrial units in the region.
